Citrus Harvest Festival was a Success!
On Saturday, March 31, 2012, the City of Highland hosted it's annual Citrus Harvest Festival. Over 6,000 people attended the event and 1,100 stopped by the HEEC/ELC booth to learn about upcoming programs and events at Sam J. Racadio Library and Environmental Learning Center, make to remember thier visit and meet Monty (ball python). Without the help of the many volunteers including student who are part of the San Gorgonio EarthSavers Club, this would not have been possible without them!
Creative Crafts for Adults Get Creative With Buttons!
On Saturday, February 4, 2012, HEEC hosted another Creative Crafts for Adults program where patrons were invited to gather their favorite buttons, small bud vases, salt shakers or wine corks and turn them into beautiful button bouquets! Five crafters made some very unique and colorful bouquets using common household items. Great way to reuse crafters!
Regular Programs:

Garden Walk: Follow the path through the History of Recycling to the RooftopGardens. Enjoy the flora and fauna and learn about our native plants. Monday 10-11am, Wednesday 10-11am, Saturday 9-10:30am
Eco-Matinee: Adults are invited to enjoy a free movie and discuss the feature film or environmental documentary with ELC staff. Last Monday each month, 1:00pm. Community Room.
Family Science Exploration: Bring the entire family to investigate a new science topic every month. Bring your curiosity and be reaty to experiment! One Saturday each month, 10:00am, ELC Science Lab.
Discovery Hour: Children 5-11 years old explore a new non-fiction topic each week through books and activities, then meet Re-Pete at his futuristic trash truck. Thursdays, 3:00pm, Children's Program Room.
Tiny Hoppers Toddler Time: Toddlers (walkers to 3 years old) will love this program full of activities, interactive songs, stories, and much more. Registration is required. Choose from Tuesdays at 10:30am, Wednesdays at 10:30am, Wednesdays at 6:00pm, or Fridays at 10:30am.
Family Story Time/Pajama Story Time: Children of all ages enjoy a traditional story time full of songs, stories, and crafts. Join us on Thursdays at 10:30am or in your PJs on Tuesdays at 6:00pm.
Crittery Tyke Explorers: Children can meet the animals of the ELC up close and personal at the animal exhibits. Fridays at 3:30pm.
Teen Animal Ambassadors: Young Adults will experience vet care, animal exhibit preparation, animal enrichment, or a variety of activities as they meet the animals of the ELC up close. Fridays at 5:00pm. Location varies.
Annual Programs:
Highland's Annual Earth Day Celebration: Booths, activities, and themed programs for patrons of all ages will inspire you to celebrate the wonders of our planet! Each year, April 22.
Summer Reading Program: With special programs for babies, children, teens, and adults, patrons discover new reading materials while enjoying special programs and incentives on a common theme. Every summer, June-August. Specific dates vary.
Great California Shakeout: Be a part of the largest earthquake drill in the world with emergency preparedness programs and a state-wide coordinated earthquake drill. Third Thursday of October.
Eco-Gift Wrap: Let HEEC help you make your holidays a little GREENER, bring you un-wrapped gifts to the library and learn how to use recycled and natural materials to create an eco-friendly holiday season. Every December.
Programs for Educators:
Schools, Scout Troops and other Community Organizations can take advantage of a variety of programs offered by the ELC.
