From the iguana and cichlids to the chinchilla and love birds, the animals of the Environmental Learning Center each have a story to tell! Most of the over 40 species in the ELC are rescued animals.
Why do we have live animals on display? The animals are much more than a simple display. The ELC strives to give each individual the proper environment and care they require while allowing the animals to teach the public about RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP, and SPECIES AND HABITAT CONSERVATION.
Come visit the animals anytime during regualr library hours! Each animal has a story to tell and ELC staff are always available to answer any questions.
Be sure to check out our Animal Ambassadors every Friday for a up-close and personal program all about our animal friends
Adopt-an-Animal Program
Are the animals your favorite part of the Environmental Learning Center? Show your love by supporting the animals through the Adopt-an-Animal Program.
Who Can Adopt an Animal?
Individuals, families, school, groups, service organizations, even your company!
Why Adopt?
The Environmental Learning Center currently cares for a variety of animals, many of which have been donated to the library, because they could no longer be cared for. These animals are live exhibits which may be viewed by the public for the purpose of education. There currently is no budget for the excellent care and maintenance these animals receive.
Your generous Adopt an Animal donations will help provide vet care, food, enrichment toys and treats. Best of all, your animal will remain at the Environmental where it receives the expert care it needs. You provide the love without the worry or the work!
Adoption Guidelines
►Adoptions last one year and are renewable.
►Adoptions can be given as a gift.
►Due to their popularity, some animals may be adopted by more than one sponsor.
►No ownership rights are transferred by the "adoption".
►If an animal leaves for any reason, your adoption will be transferred to another animal for the remainder of your adoption year.
►Any animal we currently at the Environmental Learning Center is available for adoption.
►All adoption donations are tax-deductable.
